My birthday: sugar,dairy and guilt free! I’ll tell you how I did it…

My Birthday was in January on the 31st. I have been wanting to share all about my fun day!

I woke up in the morning and I saw this on Facebook…

My husband Kurt is a caricature artist and so good at surprises.  Check out his website www.drawyoufunny.com .

That evening Kurt(meat lovin husband), Devri(my cutie baby) and Nicole (my lovely sister and Devri’s Aunt Coco) took me out to dinner.  I picked out a vegetarian organic restaurant called Sage in downtown Salt Lake City. I have never been to a  restaurant that has vegetarianism as their specialty. I was super excited to go and try it out! It was my birthday so meat loving husband gladly went along(I think that he was secretly excited to try it as well).

Their hot chocolate was amazing…

I make hot chocolate at home all the time with just three ingredients rice milk(or almond milk), cocoa, stevia.

For a appetizer we got the  Mushroom Escargot which is shiitake mushrooms roasted in a garlic rosemary balsamic and red wine sauce with carrot butter pate and toasted baguette slices…

The entree that I ordered was the TACOS VEGETARIANOS which is corn tortillas stuffed with grilled vegetables and choice of seasoned tempeh, tofu, fake chicken, or portobello mushrooms served with cilantro-lime vinaigrette tossed greens, garnished with sour cream (fake) and guacamole. My choice was portabella mushroom.

Meat lovin husband ordered the PHILLY CHEESE STEAK which is Choice of grilled chicken(it’s fake chicken), tempeh, or portabella mushrooms with caramelized onion, roasted bell pepper and tomatoes topped with cheese (fake cheese)…

2013-01-31 19.02.23 I’m not a fan of all the processed fake vegan stuff. Who knows if its even that much better for you then the real stuff.

My sister Nicole ordered the MAGICAL WOK: Fresh coconut-sesame curry made with seasonal vegetables, toasted cashews and choice of tofu, tempeh, portabella mushrooms, or chicken poured over choice of brown rice or soba noodles prepared mild, medium, or hot…

I would order her entree in a heartbeat. I love Curry’s. We have curry at our house from time to time. It’s a great healthy meatless vegan meal. You can load it with lots of veggies and have it over rice!

The next restaurant I want to try in also down town Salt Lake called super natural cafe. Let me know if you would like to come!

After dinner we went to Nicoles house. She made my special birthday cake and ice cream. Its special because it was sugar free and dairy free!!!

2013-01-31 20.16_edited1Between the three of us we ate more than half the pan. I had three pieces!!!  Best of all when I finished I didn’t feel sick or any lag of energy. She got the recipes from a blog called chocolate-covered Katie the healthy dessert blog you can get the cake recipe here  and the ice cream recipe here.

Three days later on Sunday we celebrated my birthday with Kurts family. Kurt broke all the rules and got this gorgeous cake…
